Dublin Business School postgraduate routes on this site are one-year master's programmes. They are a poor fit for someone leaving school, and a normal fit for someone who has already had a career. The work is the reason to apply, provided the programme follows it.

A master's after 5–10 years of employment

Many of the people this site is written for finished a degree several years ago and have been working since. That pattern is normal for a postgraduate professional programme. The application should show the work, not apologise for it.

Time since graduation

State the year of the degree and what you did afterwards, with dates. Continuous employment is the explanation. A gap that is actually a job, a promotion, or a business does not need to be described as empty time.

Continuous employment and an unexplained gap

Employment that runs from graduation to now is the clean story. A period with no work and no other documented activity is different, and it needs its own explanation. Do not hide it, and do not describe a job as a gap.

Career progression

Show the sequence of roles, not only the latest title. A move from officer to manager, or from a technical role into responsibility for people or a budget, is the reason a master's can make sense now.

A course that follows the experience

Choose a DBS programme that a reader can connect to the work. Finance work and a finance master's is an easy line. A move into a new field can still be logical, and it has to be written out. An unrelated switch with no explanation is the weak version.

Why an MBA or MSc at this stage

An MBA is the usual DBS route when the aim is management and the degree subject can differ. An MSc is the usual route when the degree or the work is already in that subject and you want to specialise. Neither is a better badge. The fit is the point.

Employment letters, salary records, and responsibilities

Ask employers for letters that name the role, the dates, and what you were responsible for. Salary slips or bank credits that match the letter make the same point from a second source. Responsibilities matter more than a stack of certificates.

The career-development narrative

Write a short account: what you do, what you want to be able to do next, and why this programme is the step between them. Years spent working are professional experience. They are not automatically a negative study gap.
